Contentment Is Key

If you read Monday’s post HERE about the comparison trap this one will follow quietly in its footsteps. I think there are a lot of ways to feel content and that looks different for everyone. I’m going to break it down for you though in case you feel
stuck.

Contentment is defined as a state of happiness and satisfaction

Woah. Isn’t that the goal, isn’t that what almost everyone longs for? I’m thinking yes.

…………………………………………………………………….

1. You can’t have contentment without a whole bunch of gratefulness. When you are in the trenches feeling totally overwhelmed by life, it’s hard to see the light. I know. Learning to be thankful for your trials and tribulations is a not only a huge sign of maturity in your faith, but also just shows maturity.

2. What you have (or don’t) does not reflect your success. I know a few people who have more money than they can shake a stick at and here they are rollin’ around in a 10 year old car, living totally “normal”; not like the rich and famous. That is contentment. Keeping Up With The Joneses is a real thing and a huge marketing ploy in this society. Which is fine, but you have to DECIDE that it won’t sway you. Again, easier said than done.

3. Probably time for an attitude adjustment. What you think about yourself, your life, your success will absolutely determine your ability to feel contentment and happiness. There is true joy in knowing you are exactly in the middle of God’s will. Even if that means knowing TRUE struggle, there is almost always a lesson to be learned. Take these opportunities to grow through what you go through!

4. Learn how to have a servants heart. This has been a total GAME CHANGER for me recently. Giving my time to others is so rewarding. There are people out there with FAR less than you. Having a servant’s heart will look differently for everyone.  Whether it be volunteering, serving at church, or something huge like missions trips. GIVE GIVE GIVE! You’ll never feel richer.

5. Be true to you! It’s really easy to get caught up in the new and now (refer back to HERE) but there are ways to find true joy. When you stick to your guns, morals, style even, you won’t be moved by the copious amounts of STUFF that are pushed at you daily. Learning to live a life of minimalism and surrounded by things that make you feel happy is the key here. Don’t buy it just because someone told you to or because you are suffering from some serious FOMO.

…………

All in all, its achievable for everyone. It will take time and a lot of self discipline to get there.
Pray hard. For contentment, wisdom, clarity, just pray! They will never go unheard.

Love you lots!

How do you strive for contentment? Any tips?

Jessica
